Hi.

I’ve framed your response and hung it on the wall, but you’re giving me undeserved credit. My skills are not at editing — I just stumbled over the one I mentioned and hoped you’d see the humor.

There’s a whole chapter in Steven Pinker’s brief book, The Sense of Style that talks about misplaced phrases including some very funny ones. He’s definitely worth reading. Pinker can get into the weeds, but he does it with humor. The NY Times review gives you an idea of it: Steven Pinker’s ‘The Sense of Style’

For cleaning up grammar mistakes, I use ProWriterAid. It doesn’t catch everything, and it has some ticks I don’t like, but it’s better than staring at the same page for hours and not catching them — and it’s not too expensive.

I don’t know where you are in the piece you mention, but I’ve been helped by other writers more than I could ever repay, so I’m open to hearing what you’re working on and where you’re at with it. You have my email.

If you’re looking for a great development editor, I’d say Rachelle Ramirez. She’s helped me a few times on smaller work, and if I ever finish the novel from hell, I’m hoping she’ll help with that.

Her website is: https://rachelleramirez.com/ Tell her hi for me.

Hope you keep at it.

Bill
